Refreshing
As I am trying to get back into a good fitness level now that spring is here and winter is over I went for a short 3 mile jog in my neighborhood and it started sprinkling a little bit and it made me remember how refreshing running in the rain can be.

The hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy has this to say on the subject of flying.
There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying.
The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

Planning can be exhausting…
I’ve been complaining about being so tired lately, and luckily I had a good work out today after not working out for a while and now I feel great even though tomorrow may suck after watching this USA vs Mexico soccer match, and part of that is due to the fact that not only have I been busy with “bill paying” work but I am also at that start of youth soccer season, even though that has been a struggle to even get training sessions in thanks to the weather, I am also working on getting the 6th season of my company soccer league underway, and of course I have been working my tail off, to put it nicely, for the Shock and trying to ensure that we get off to a great season.
Now that I am thinking about it I have no idea what I am going to do once I get done with all that this year? I might actually have to spend time with my family. Ha that is just a joke. Just trying to see if my wife or any other family members read these things. I love all of my family members and they have all been crazy supportive of me and I love spending time with them.

Hiking
One of the most favorite things I’ve done in my almost 31 years of life, that doesn’t include soccer, is hiking.
I was in Boy Scouts for several years and did a lot of hiking stuff. Most notably I hiked through the corridor of the Grand Canyon on a 50 mile, 5 day journey. That was also probably one of the times I was in the best shape as a kid (under 18).
During my time in the military and more specifically boot camp one of the things that Drill Instructors try to do to break recruits down is to head out on what they call humps. The longest being 8 miles. These rarely phased me with the exception of not enjoying carrying my weapon as well as everything else was pretty much attached to my body. I would like to think that despite struggling in physical training up until towards the end of my time in boot camp that when we were out in the field I really excelled.
I’ve recently been thinking that I might want to get back to hiking as it is a good way to get out and just enjoy Mother Nature (not including all this snow), pretty much go for a nice stroll wherever you may be, and can be a great way to just gather thoughts.

White Flakes of Death
I know that I have complained about the weather lately in the KC area but it is getting to be a little ridiculous. Spring started last week yet we received about another 5 inches of snow over the night and apparently have some more on the way.
I am seriously tired of this winter weather and am ready for not only spring to be here but also summer and it is more than welcomed to stay around for a little while.

Rule 5: Be Awesome
And what a rule to have. Come to find out it was added because there was still space on the wall.
Today the KC Shock’s head coach, director of ops and myself all had a meeting and took a “tour” of a fitness facility and shortly into the meeting I saw a set of rules on the wall and the 5th and final rule simple. “Be Awesome”
That is definitely such a simple rule but usually one that is so overlooked when it comes to fitness and health.
I said we took a tour of the facility but really when you walk in you see everything as it is a very small place but very personal as it isn’t open to free weight training. You don’t just have a membership and come and go as you please. You go there with a goal in mind and the people that work there are focused on any individual that comes through their doors to ensure they help you out.

Soccer in the Snow?!
And not just any snow but a snow storm…
That’s what I got to watch a bit of tonight as I jumped in late to see the US Men’s National Team played in what some, but not many, would call an odd snow storm in Colorado, in March. I did say some would call it an odd snow storm.
I will say that it is one of the oddest things I’ve seen. I’ve seen a few soccer matches that have been played in the snow but nothing like this.
They did use the yellow hi-vis ball even though the commentators suggested that the probably should have changed over to the orange ball, but something that I didn’t notice and that was when Dempsey was laying on the ground, a little banged up, was that I wonder how easy it was to Costa Rica to even see the USA players as they were wearing their brand new white centennial jersey. It really did make it a little harder to see some of the players.
Oddly enough the play continued pretty well until the dying moments of the game when I did notice a little bit of slippage from the players.
USA really needed the win but who would have thought that it would have required a snow storm to get that win. Oh wait as I type this up Clint Dempsey has exchanged his jersey with one of the Costa Rican players, a very common tradition amongst soccer players, and then proceeded to run around the field thanking the fans with no shirt on.
I thought about skipping this game and missed the first half but I am really glad that I decided to watch the game as it was very interesting and even better USA got the win and now stand a better chance of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil
USA! USA! USA!

Funk or is my brain fried?
Or is it quite possible that I’m just worn down from all this weather? I mean this week has been a bit of a hectic week with work, my family, the Shock, and this weather has gotten to be freaking ridiculous.
I have also been feeling cold all the time lately and is causing me to want to eat all the time. I know why I’ve been so cold and that has to deal with my weight loss to an extent but all this extra eating is kind of irritating and this gloomy weather is causing me to have no motivation to continue working out. I even turned down a chance to play soccer the other night.
Work has been insanely hectic for a little over a week, and I’m not talking like just a little more work than normal, I’m talking about work that has seriously taken a lot of focus and I almost think I rather be back in Marine Corps boot camp.
The Shock has been the Shock and we are making progress towards our first kickoff in May. And my family is, well my family, this stems all the way from my mother in-law, to my own children, to my brother and just about everybody in between.
I think I can say this though and that is that I am definitely ready for a break and July cannot get here fast enough. Even warmer weather, at a consistent rate and not just a random Friday, would be greatly appreciated.

New kind of old.
I’ve made this observation with hearing stuff from my wife and the place that she works, but I haven’t had to deal with it to much, but I had an instances come up today that reminded me and I wanted to get out there.
As I was leaving work today an older gentleman was following at a good distance behind me as I was walking through the door. As I exited through the door, me being the nice person that I am, I held the door for this gentleman as he walked right through and didn’t even acknowledge that the door was being held. Even a grunt in my direction would have at least been nice.
What this just proves to me is that there is in fact a new old person. It use to be that old people were nice and sweet and you enjoyed helping them out. The new old person seem to have this bitterness and selfishness about them and walk around as if people owe them something. They are starting to give old people a bad reputation and I only hope that I am not the same way when I get to be at that age.

Frustration
Sometimes I really don’t get people. I’m sure they feel the same way about me but it would sometimes be nice to understand why people do some of the things they do.
Sometimes at work I get asked to do the strangest things or asked the oddest questions. Of course I mean this in the matter that pertains to my work as I’ve been there for 7 years now but I recall being asked some very odd questions when I worked at other places.
This isn’t just about questions though but is more towards actions. It seems weird to me how you can be out and about and people seem to be in their own little worlds most the time or worse yet think that world revolves around them and expect people to cater to their needs. I use to think that this was just old people being old but I’m quickly starting to see it amongst younger people and even young kids.
This is the type of stuff that really frustrates me and forces me to consider if I want to continue trying to be the nice person that I am. I say this but it’s in my nature to be a nice person and I would like my kids to grow up being the same way. I
Just hope that they do grow up to be nice people like I try to be.

Just keep writing
I’m struggling to come up with a topic for tonight but one of the reasons why I started writing on this tumblr so much is so that I continue writing. My other blog I have started to turn into more of a sport specific blog, at least when I write, and my tumblr has turn into my personal blog. I really have enjoyed writing in here almost every day with the exception of a few but obviously some days I just won’t have much to say I guess but I am going to do my darnedest to write everyday as I like it and maybe one day hope to write something like a small book or a novel. Who knows? Stranger things have happened.

Good way to end my St. Patrick’s day - My wife, kids and I spent the entire day inside for St. Patrick’s day but we still had a very enjoyable day as it started off with the wife making green pancakes and green eggs for breakfast/lunch then for dinner we made chicken nuggets for the boys while I started teaching myself how to make fried fish to be able to enjoy fish and chips more often. Then of course I made some green beer, which still doesn’t stand up to my Boulevards Irish Ale which I also enjoyed one of today.
